Situated in proximity to the Monte Massico, overviewing Capri island, these vineyards have been cultivated on a sleeping volcano soil since the Romans. A blend of their best Aglianico grape and local Piedirosso growing free of Phylloxera, a piede franco, without the support of an American root clone and still respecting the eldest recorder wine denomination in history
the AGER FALERNUM as described by many local poet Pliny the Elder, Catullus, Horace, and many other was described not as wine but as a Falerno wine. An appellation distributed not just around the Med but as far the British isles.
It was also the wine that Petronius, in the Satyricon, has Trimalchio serve at his dinner banquet. Quintus Dellius complained to Cleopatra that while he and other dignitaries were served sour wine by Antony in Greece, Augustus’s catamite was drinking Falernian in Rome.
